City Living: What It’s Like to Have a Dog at The Spire

Living in a high-rise with a dog might sound like a bit of a challenge, but honestly, living at The Spire in downtown Denver has made it way easier than I thought. From some awesome built-in conveniences to little surprises along the way, this place has made city living with my dog super convenient. Here's why I love it.

Late-Night Potty Breaks? Totally Covered.

We’ve all been there—the dreaded middle-of-the-night “I have to go NOW” dance with your pup. But at The Spire, there’s no scrambling to get shoes on and heading outside into the cold. We’ve got a third-floor dog park with astroturf, and let me tell you, it’s a total lifesaver. Whether it’s a freezing Denver morning or a late-night bathroom emergency, it’s just so nice to have an on-site spot to take my dog out. It’s small, but it gets the job done—and trust me, on those snowy nights, you’ll be so glad it’s there.

Built-In Dog Community

One of the best (and unexpected) perks of having a dog here? Instant friendships. The Spire is home to a solid crew of dog owners who regularly take their pups to the sculpture park just down the block at the Denver Center for Performing Arts. It’s more than just a bathroom stop—it’s where dogs play, neighbors meet, and before you know it, you’re swapping dog-walking favors and finding a new favorite happy hour buddy.

And speaking of help—there are fantastic dog walkers right in the building. Whether you need a mid-day walk while you’re at work or a full pet-sitting service, you don’t have to search far to find reliable, dog-loving neighbors who can lend a hand. And it's so nice to be able to grant a neighbor access to your place via the key check-out service at the front desk so they can take your dog out for a walk while you're gone and you don't even have to worry about anyone new learning about the building or parking or anything like that.

City Walks, Coffee Stops & Weekend Adventures

When you live downtown with a dog, daily walks double as an adventure. The Cherry Creek Trail is just steps away and offers endless route options, whether you’re squeezing in a quick loop before work or making a morning of it. Heading to Confluence Park is always a good move—your pup gets a solid run, and you can grab a coffee on the way back at Red Silo - Best espresso! It is a (win-win). And there is just a lovely dog-centric atmosphere down there. It's just a lovely way to get you and your dog's day started.

Doggie Shopping, Right Around the Corner

Forgot to grab dog food? Need a new leash? Need a local groomer?? No problem. The Spire’s location means practically everything you need is within a few blocks.

  • Dog Savvy (on Larimer) is a must-visit for high-quality pet food, treats, and grooming. They are such a wonderful part of the local dog community and you'll see lots of Spire pets there for their grooming visits.

  • Ace Hardware (yes, Ace!) has a surprisingly massive pet section, stocked with toys, treats, and food. The staff are really lovely too and are always quick with a treat if you stop by with your pet which is always fun.

  • Plenty of restaurants and coffee shops nearby welcome dogs on their patios, making it easy to grab a bite without leaving your pup behind.

Is The Spire a Good Place to Have a Dog? Absolutely.

Honestly, living in a high-rise with a dog seemed a little intimidating at first, but The Spire makes it so easy. With the dog park, the awesome dog-loving community, and all the nearby parks, trails, and pet stores, it’s been an amazing place for both me and my dog.

So yeah, if you’re thinking about living here with your dog, trust me, it’s an amazing spot for both of you.
